Mediation Services
A mediator facilitates negotiation between parties to a dispute to assist in reaching a resolution that, if not “win win”, is at least a better alternative than the emotional and economic costs of continuing the disagreement or claim. Mediation can be instrumental in resolving disputes arising out of the workplace. Mediators assist parties in settling claims once a charge of discrimination has been filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission or the Kansas Human Rights Commission. Most federal courts mandate parties to participate in mediation. Mediation can also be effective as part of a company’s internal dispute resolution program aimed at reducing the number of claims made against the organization.
Kathy Perkins has been interested in the dynamics of dispute resolution since participating in the Negotiation Workshop at Harvard Law School. She has participated in at least 100 mediations as an advocate for a party or mediator and attended the Judicial Mediation Program at the Pepperdine Institute of Dispute Resolution. As a mediator, Kathy is committed to listening to the interests of the parties and providing creative ideas for resolution.
